Havendijk Hotel
Atelier NIRIS has finished the renovation of Havendijk Hotel in Schiedam, the Netherlands.
The building was formerly a public library of 1980s. We aim to renovate this building of vast open space into a 4-star standard boutique hotel with 38 rooms, a restaurant, meeting room, co-working space and a rooftop wellness. Due to its old identity, every room has its own uniqueness and beauty.
Another goal of this renovation project is to offer the surrounding industry and office area with quality food, quality space and quality time.
Schiedam is a port city with a long history. As early as the 13th century, there was a dam in the Schie river to protect the land behind it from the water. The fortress that arose near the dam grew into a city, which would later develop into present-day Schiedam.
Havendijk is a historic street in Schiedam on the well-known district of de Gorzen, which is a neighbourhood with many small houses. In the early twentieth century, mainly workers from Schiedam's Wilton Feijenoord, Nieuwe Waterweg and Gusto shipyards lived here. The Gorzen contains monumental houses by former city architect Pieter Sanders, some of which have been renovated or restored.
The Maasboulevard is also located in the Gorzen. Views over the Maas and Rotterdam's skyline and many Schiedammers linger by the water in the summer months. Cycling, sunbathing, walking and skating. And at the beginning of summer, this is where 't Maasboulevardfeest takes place every year.
